The CKLS System Plan, Basic Grant, and Incentive Grants operate on a three-year cycle. Requirements for the Incentive Grants can change from year to year. Librarians and Trustees are highly encouraged to be familiar with the System Plan for the previous and upcoming year so they can take full advantage to earn grant monies from CKLS.
- In the first year, the System Plan for the second year is approved at a meeting of the full System Board. This means that each library knows what is required for the Basic System Grant and Incentive Grants the year before the requirements must be met. (Historically the System Plan was voted on and approved at the May two-day meeting. In 2017, the System Plan will be voted on in August during the Business Meeting at Technology Day.)
- In the second year, each library chooses to meet, or not, the requirements for the Basic System Grant and Incentive Grants.
- In January of the third year, libraries report on what they have done to meet the requirements for the Basic System Grant and the Incentive Grants.
