9:30 a.m. STEM in Storytime- Sandy Wilkerson

During the day, Sandy works as the Youth Services Consultant at SEKLS. At night, she solves first grade math problems with the rest of her supermom duties. She strives to be the crafty one, but isn't. The former school librarian lives in Iola with her husband and daughter. Her session will introduce the concepts of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math into your storytime session. Titles, websites, and ideas will be shared.

11:45 a.m. Notable Children's Books - Julie Tomlianovich

Julie has been on the Caldecott and Newbery committees and now serves on the Notable Children's Book Committee. The session will describe Notable seal imagethe process involved of serving on the committee. She will share what it is like to receive, track, read, and nominate and vote for the titles. Julie has been a children's librarian for more than three decades and believes in the power and beauty of children's literature. She is the Youth Services Consultant for SCKLS.

1:15 p.m. 6 by 6 Early Literacy Activity Kit Launch - Anna Foote

The State Library has used grant funds to create 6 by 6 Early Literacy Activity Kits. Each kit is based on a great children's book and contains 8-10 PEACOCKcopyrightactivities for adults and children to do together. The activities help children gain the six skills they need by age six to be ready to learn to read. Anna will give you ideas on how to use the kits to enhance the learning and fun that families experience in your library. Anna serves as the early Literacy/Lifelong Learning Coordinator for the State Library of Kansas.
