Job Description
Job Title: Rotating Van Driver.
Department: Outreach Services
FLSA Status: Nonexempt
Prepared Date: 13 September 2012
SUMMARY: Rotates books to each CKLS library every other month. coordinates operations of the Rotating Van and maintains System vehicles.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Maintains the Rotating Book collection on the van and shelves overflow books in the department after stocking the truck.
- Works with supervisor to determine the annual rotation schedule and notifies each librarian in a timely manner.
- Delivers (rotates) books to participating libraries six times yearly.
- Assists librarians in selecting books from the van for their libraries.
- Acts as liaison between the System and member librarians.
- Prepares statistical report after each rotation.
- Oversees regular service, preventive maintenance, and cleaning of the book van and system vehicles.
- Participates in at least one continuing education event yearly.
- Perform other tasks as assigned by the supervisor.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
One year certificate from college or technical school; or three to six months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES
- Willingness to travel independently approximately 85 days per year, and be out overnight 1 or 2 nights per week, most weeks.
- Ability to operate a computer.
- Ability to create, send, and receive e-mail messages.
- Pleasant and cooperative personality, able to take direction and to work well with others.
- Ability to drive a one-ton van loaded with books.
- Must have a good driving record.
- Ability to organize tasks efficiently, accurately and neatly, with high attention to detail.
- Ability to handle responsibilities and problems independently.
- Ability to meet deadlines and to work under pressure.
- Ability and willingness to learn new skills and accept new tasks.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to speak and write standard English and be understood. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, proportions, and percentages.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Must have valid Kansas Drivers License, good driving record and proof of standard risk insurability. (Motor vehicle driving record will be checked.)
